Glen and his wife Anne have been square dancing since 1960. Glen was so intrigued with the mechanics of dancing that he began teaching himself to call in 1961, while living in Squamish, B.C. He has called on a fairly regular basis since then in Squamish, Princeton, Lower Nicola, Golden, Revelstoke, Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Kaslo and Penticton. He has taught square dancing in the schools to various age groups throughout the years.
His first group of students, pre-teens from Princeton, went to the annual Pacific Northwest Teen Square Dance Festival in 1969. Then, after a job transfer to Nelson, he taught young people in Slocan City and Nelson. In 1973 and again in 1974, he took a busload of teens to the Festival. The group had so much fun that a special trophy was created for them, called the "Sunshine Trophy." In 1981, Glen's job took him to Penticton for a year where he called one season for a youth club known as the Pen-Teen Beaux and Petticoats.
After many years of living in B.C.'s Kootenay region, Glen and Anne decided to retire to Peachland, in the Okanagan Valley. Once again, back in the Okanagan, Glen is very happy to be helping young people discover the fun, fitness and friendship in modern square dancing. He very much looks forward to calling and teaching for the new Westside Youth Square Dance Club in the Kelowna/Westbank area.
Glen is a member of the Okanagan Callers and Cuers Association who meet several times a year to keep their members updated on the latest instruction materials and techniques.
